So with my youth group we are preparing them for our annual retreat, and this years theme is ” Who Am I”. With most of them being in high school and a few middle schoolers we thought as leadership it was an important topic to cover. Knowing who you are in Christ not the world.
Well yesterday we were covering the topic Beyond Religion. Showing the differences between other religions and Christianity and we wound up on the topic of personal relationships with God. And as I was teaching and trying to get them to understand what that means using metaphors with real life issues it kind of hit home with me.
I have friends and family that are important to me. And I show my love for them in return by spending time with them, buying them things, praying for them and telling them. And the same should go with God. He wants to know that he is loved and how deep our devotion is to him. How can we do that? Spend time with him in prayer, reading his word, spreading the gospel and telling him.
Yes he is God and he knows our hearts but sometimes affirmations not only benefit the receiver but also the person affirming.
Action for the day: Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you… (James 4:8 ESV)
