BOOK DESCRIPTION

Rule number one for Bailey Westmoreland: Never fall for a man who would take her away from her tight-knit family’s Colorado home. So why is she following rancher Walker Rafferty all the way to Alaska? Bailey tells herself she owes the sexy loner an apology, and once she gets there, it’s only right to stay and help him when he’s injured…isn’t it? Before long, Bailey realizes home might be where you make it—if Walker is ready to take all she has to offer.

MY TAKE

I loved this book!!! Bailey has been one of my favorite Westmoreland’s since her character was introduced.  Why? Because she reminds me a lot of myself.  She’s smart, sassy and to the point, but she loves her family more than anything.  As you read through the Denver Westmoreland’ stories you get glimpses of Bailey and her tough no-nonsense personality which makes you wonder what man has the ability to not only pique her interest but capture her heart.

Brenda did good when she choose Walker for Bailey, he’s silent but firm, protective but gentle and lets not forget sexy.  Poor Bailey fell head in before she could talk herself out of it and Walker was different.  Although the scenario used to get them together has been done before by other authors and Ms. Jackson herself, it felt unique to this book.  I strong suggest reading this book and if you haven’t read from the beginning of the series to get to know Bailey.

And for those waiting on Bane’s story ( Meeeee!!!) Make sure you read the epilogue (wink)

BOOK DESCRIPTION

She’s all he’s ever wanted. He’s everything she’ll ever need.

Business mogul Dalton Granger is as passionate as he is gorgeous, but private investigator Jules Bradshaw won’t give him the time of day. She knows all about the youngest Granger brother—a charming bad boy whose only interest is playing the field.

But Dalton is more complicated than that, and he’s determined to show Jules that behind all the bravado is the honest heart of a devoted son, brother…and a man whose own life is in peril.

Jules is the only person who can protect Dalton, and they embark on a mission to save his family and his legacy. But when their late nights in the office turn into early mornings in the bedroom, Jules and Dalton soon realize they have more at stake than they ever imagined.

MY TAKE

Let me say this first, I looooovvvvveeee Brenda Jackson.  She has written over 60 books and to my knowledge I’ve read them all.  I’ve read them, loved them and dreamed of the day my life would be turned upside down by one of the heroes in her books.  So when I read A Lover’s Vow I was a little disappointed. This is the third and final book in Jacksons’ Granger series about brothers Jace,Caden and Dalton.  The brother’s suffered a horrible blow when their mother was murdered and their father was convicted as the killer and sent to prison.  Years later the brothers are summoned home when their grandfather is on his death bed and makes the brothers promise to find the true killer.

The first book is a introduction to the family and what they’ve been through since the death of Sylvia Granger.  It also gets the ball rolling with the investigation sees the older brother Jace meet his match.  The second book focuses on middle brother Caden and his reunion with former girlfriend Shiloh with the suspense of the murder investigation in the background.

With this being the last book in the series my expectations were high and in the end the book left high and dry.  The book was very predictable from the romance side of things (but then again so is every romance novel). The character of Dalton was arrogant, conceited and frankly annoying, and not in a sexy intriguing way.  Needless to say I found myself rushing past the romance to find out who was the killer.

I’m no expert in mysteries, but normally throughout the investigation of a case the writer or tv show will introduce the killer in a roundabout way to through you off so when they are revealed you smack yourself for not putting together the clues.  In this mystery I was completely confused because it wasn’t someone we would’ve guessed and it seemed a little random.

All in all the book was ok.  It doesn’t turn me off from Brenda Jackson novels nor romance in general but if you haven’t read the series and you’re curious don’t set your expectations to high.

BOOK DESCRIPTION

At the heart of The Husband’s Secret is a letter that’s not meant to be read

My darling Cecilia, if you’re reading this, then I’ve died…

Imagine that your husband wrote you a letter, to be opened after his death. Imagine, too, that the letter contains his deepest, darkest secret—something with the potential to destroy not just the life you built together, but the lives of others as well. Imagine, then, that you stumble across that letter while your husband is still very much alive. . . .
Cecilia Fitzpatrick has achieved it all—she’s an incredibly successful businesswoman, a pillar of her small community, and a devoted wife and mother. Her life is as orderly and spotless as her home. But that letter is about to change everything, and not just for her: Rachel and Tess barely know Cecilia—or each other—but they too are about to feel the earth-shattering repercussions of her husband’s secret.

MY TAKE

This was the book of the month for my book club.  I normally wouldn’t select this type of book to read but I’m glad I did.  I enjoyed this book, it tells the story of three women who live in Australia and how their lives are all connected because of a secret.  Cecilia is a community active stay at home wife and mother who discovers a letter addressed to her from her husband.  The letter is to be opened after his death, dun dun dun…. He’s still alive.  She opens the letter against her husband’s wishes and the secret revealed can change their lives for ever.  Rachel comes off as a bitter older woman whose only joy is her grandson.  Years ago her teenage daughter was murdered and the killer never found.  She still obsesses over the case but goes overboard when new evidence comes to light.  Last but not least is Tess, her life seems to be smooth sailing until her husband and cousin confess to being in love with each other.  SCANDALOUS!!!

The best thing about this book is the relatable feel it has.  No, not everyone in this story has a happy ending and that’s life.  I also enjoyed that the author did not bring the women together to address their problems get over them and then focus on one big bad.  There is also a bit of mystery and romance without overdoing it.  Overall a good story.

WHAT I DIDNT ❤

  • It took me two months to get through this book :-O to me it was not a page turner.  And there were a few times I felt the book to be boring and slow.
  • The author included a fourth point of view somewhat towards the middle of the book that I don’t believe added anything to the story.
  • The best part of the book was the epilogue.  Not because it was over but it was really well written, funny and provided closure.  I know these are all positives but to ready a book and you favorite portion is the end is really disappointing.  But I still say this was an OK book.

BOOK DESCRIPTION

Seduction in the lap of luxury…

Award-winning wines have helped Dexter Drake turn his family’s luxury resort and spa into the most successful vineyard in Southern California. Yet Dexter has another talent—his prowess with women. He is having too much fun to settle down…until he meets Faye Buckner, a guest at the vineyard’s hotel. Her act of kindness makes it impossible for him to get the beautiful doctor out of his mind.

Faye believes in making the world a better place, and has dedicated her career to saving lives. She plans to concentrate on her work. But she soon discovers that the breathtaking playboy isn’t just gorgeous—he is intelligent and compassionate, too. Should Faye remain focused solely on her career or listen to Dexter’s passionate promises…and her own heart?

MY TAKE

I love when authors make characters relatable, don’t get me wrong I love a swoon worthy book where the woman is perfect and the man is the next Denzel or Brad Pitt but let’s be real.  Not all men have perfect manners, lots of money, looks to die for and know all the perfect words to make you fall in love.  Which is why I liked Dexter Drake, yes he’s handsome, has a good job , a nice car and he’s also a little arrogant, in that “yeah im fine, women like me and I know it” way. He’s use to women chasing him which makes him perfect for Dr. Faye Buckner.  Faye has just come back to the States from Haiti where she served as a volunteer  to open her clinic.  Her mentor gives her a week vacation at the Drake resort Dexter’s family owns.  They have a brief across the lobby stare off but its at the birthday party of Papa Dee the family patriarch that they finally meet.  Faye comes to Papa’s aid when he has a mini heart attack .  Dexter personally thanks her by asking her out on a date and from then on it…  Its ON!!

From the time they first catch each others eye you can tell there is a connection, but unlike most women Faye is a little hesitant to involve herself with Dexter for all the right reasons; he’s a playboy, she knows her time at the resort is limited and she doesn’t have time to get involved in a relationship with so much going on in her life.  So does she keep her distance? of course not and eventually they become involved.  Then reality sets in a Faye has to leave.

Faye becomes heavily involved with opening the clinic and her relationship with Dexter suffers. And it doesn’t help that an old friend who is also a doctor comes into the picture.  This makes Faye question if a relationship with Dexter will ever work. They live in separate cities, live different lifestyles and have different approaches to life.   So the question is can their relationship survive the distance and new competition? IDK (well I do know since I read it),but I want you to read it yourself then tell me what you think.

FAVE SCENES

  • When Dexter meets the competition was funny as heck… Men!
  • A Cute surprise at the end
  • The meaning behind the book title

What she doesn’t know is that she’s been targeted. The Prince of Darkness himself has heard of the boy with healing in his hands and of the girl who saw through the Terrestrial veil. When he pulls the demon Damien from the fiery chasm and sends him back to Earth with new eyes, the stage is set for the ultimate battle of good versus evil.

Brielle has no choice. She must master the weapons she’s been given. She must fight.

MY TAKE

I first read this book about two months ago, so why has it taken me this long to write about it?  That’s a blog in itself.  What I can say is God has perfect timing.  I wanted to reread the first book (Angel Eyes) before I started to write this review. And if you haven’t read it yet you are clearly sleep. So I read Angel Eyes again and then I reread Broken Wings. And I must say I was so blown away.

Besides the bible there are few books (one, two) that make me relish in God’s love and His glory.  After reading these books I just wanted to praise and worship my Heavenly Father.  There was even a point where I cried in the shower after just a moment of reflection. I’ve been going through a lot these last few months but I finally felt a release from those burdens, it was awesome. See I told you it was a blog in itself 🙂

So, Broken Wings continues to tell the story of Brielle, aka elle, the girl with the gift of sight and Her boyfriend jake, the boy with the healing hands.

SPOILER ALERT!! If you have not read the first book stop reading this review and go read the books… Then come back . Please 😉
At the end of AE the demon Damien was sent to the pit after being defeated by the angel Cannan, in BE not only is he freed from the pit but the prince of darkness himself has restored his sight. He sends Damien on a mission to capture and Brielle so he can corrupt their spiritual gifts.  Just another reminder that the devil comes to steal, kill and destroy.  Brielle and Jake are adjusting to being boyfriend/girlfriend learning how to live with gifts they were given. And on top of that  Jake is keeping a secret that could change both of their futures.

There is so much in this book, I felt my everday life was getting in the way of my reading. So I will “explain” in hashtags.

As usual you get no spoilers from me, but I can say I loved the book!!!

Can what happens in Vegas…

But then his passionate bride vanishes the next day, leaving Blaze with only tantalizing memories. Fast-forward eleven months… Blaze has finally found his runaway bride again. And this time he doesn’t intend to let her get away.

…lead to a lifetime of love?

Desperate to forget the morning she woke up beside a gorgeous mystery man, Livi Carlyle flees without a word. Now her husband-a man she barely knows-is back in her life, seducing her with a passion that leaves her breathless. When a frenzied media storm threatens to turn their secret marriage into tabloid headlines, will Livi and Blaze transform their one-night fling into a forever love?

MY TAKE

So far Five Star Romance is my least favorite book in the AOB series.  I found the book to be predictable and the main characters annoying.  Now, before I go into detail I do want to say that I didn’t hate the book, I really didn’t.  The book is good for passing time and if you’re a fan of romance and Kimani books you’ll love it. I’m sure there are others who love the book,my own mother being one of them.

Our hero Blaze Alexander  and his family own a hotel chain inherited from the grandfather, he is the “bad boy turned good” and while he loves his job he hates the new attention he and his family are receiving after inheriting the hotel  chain.  Livi is a buyer for the Beverly Hills hotel who has  a secret.  Blaze and a Livi met in Vegas and immediately hit it off, they spend all of their time together and of course they share an extreme attraction.  On the last day Blaze suffers from a head injury that causes him to forget the latter half of his time in Vegas including his time with Livi.  Fast forward two years and Blaze imagines he sees Livi in his family’s hotel,he hasn’t forgotten about her after all these years but he has no way of finding her.  He’s not the only one who hasn’t forgotten, Livi indeed works at the hotel as a buyer but she’s afraid of making herself known because of the secret she’s been keeping.

Throughout the book we get find out what actually happened that last day in Vegas.  Earlier that day Livi and Blaze got married without telling anyone .  After the wedding the went to a concert where Blaze fell and hit his head after performing with his Fraternity brothers. When Livi gets to the hospital  she over hears Blaze telling his everyone he didn’t run off with her and that he didn’t want to be married.  Obviously hurt and embarrassed Livi and her friends leave Vegas the next day.

And this is where I leave you to find out what else happens. The book focuses on the news of the marriage and how Dexter, Livi and his family deal with the news.

WHAT I DIDNT ❤

  • It really bothered me that Livi knew she was married but did nothing for almost two years!! Really? It was very selfish of her.  What if Blaze wanted to get married? What if someone else figured out the secret.
  • Blaze has an annoying habit of jumping to conclusions.
  • Livi often came off as being very desperate.

BOOK DESCRIPTION

Bestselling author Stormie Omartian partners for the first time with her daughter-in-law, Paige, in a brand-new book of prayers specifically designed to speak to the heart of young women.

Stormie is loved by millions for her ability to share powerful prayers that encourage readers to embrace a close and personal relationship with God. Paige shares that same desire to speak to teens and young adults as they step out into the adventures of their lives, covering daily events big and small with a few moments before the throne of grace.

This beautiful padded volume is full of Scripture, praise, prayers, and petitions a young woman can offer up over her own life and the lives of those she loves. A Book of Prayers for Young Women is perfect for personal use or as a gift to anyone who wants to grow in her conversations with God.

MY TAKE

You can never have to many prayers.  Occasionally I find myself all out of original prayers but I still want to commune with God.    So my second option has been to find prayers that are similar to what I’m going through at the time.   And that’s what I like most about this book.  The intended audience is young women and there are plenty of prayers that address the issues that we go through.  Things like waiting for a husband, what kind of career to choose , how to get closer to God and what the heck is my purpose.  Have you ever asked those questions? Then you might want to pick this book up.

The prayers start off with a focus scripture that relates to the topic of the prayer: ex. Getting Close to God – “Come near to God and he will come near to you ” James 4:8.  After that it goes right into the prayers, the prayers arent long and drawn out but say enough to get your point across to God.  My advice would be to read over the pray once silently, read it aloud slowly and then use the prayer to come up with one of your own.  The focus scriptures are great, use them as a bible study or a devotional you can reference for later use.

All in all its  great book and would make a wonderful gift for any you woman you know.
