BOOK DESCRIPTION

At the heart of The Husband’s Secret is a letter that’s not meant to be read

My darling Cecilia, if you’re reading this, then I’ve died…

Imagine that your husband wrote you a letter, to be opened after his death. Imagine, too, that the letter contains his deepest, darkest secret—something with the potential to destroy not just the life you built together, but the lives of others as well. Imagine, then, that you stumble across that letter while your husband is still very much alive. . . .
Cecilia Fitzpatrick has achieved it all—she’s an incredibly successful businesswoman, a pillar of her small community, and a devoted wife and mother. Her life is as orderly and spotless as her home. But that letter is about to change everything, and not just for her: Rachel and Tess barely know Cecilia—or each other—but they too are about to feel the earth-shattering repercussions of her husband’s secret.

MY TAKE

This was the book of the month for my book club.  I normally wouldn’t select this type of book to read but I’m glad I did.  I enjoyed this book, it tells the story of three women who live in Australia and how their lives are all connected because of a secret.  Cecilia is a community active stay at home wife and mother who discovers a letter addressed to her from her husband.  The letter is to be opened after his death, dun dun dun…. He’s still alive.  She opens the letter against her husband’s wishes and the secret revealed can change their lives for ever.  Rachel comes off as a bitter older woman whose only joy is her grandson.  Years ago her teenage daughter was murdered and the killer never found.  She still obsesses over the case but goes overboard when new evidence comes to light.  Last but not least is Tess, her life seems to be smooth sailing until her husband and cousin confess to being in love with each other.  SCANDALOUS!!!

The best thing about this book is the relatable feel it has.  No, not everyone in this story has a happy ending and that’s life.  I also enjoyed that the author did not bring the women together to address their problems get over them and then focus on one big bad.  There is also a bit of mystery and romance without overdoing it.  Overall a good story.

WHAT I DIDNT ❤

  • It took me two months to get through this book :-O to me it was not a page turner.  And there were a few times I felt the book to be boring and slow.
  • The author included a fourth point of view somewhat towards the middle of the book that I don’t believe added anything to the story.
  • The best part of the book was the epilogue.  Not because it was over but it was really well written, funny and provided closure.  I know these are all positives but to ready a book and you favorite portion is the end is really disappointing.  But I still say this was an OK book.

Now her husband-a man she barely knows-is back in her life, seducing her with a passion that leaves her breathless. When a frenzied media storm threatens to turn their secret marriage into tabloid headlines, will Livi and Blaze transform their one-night fling into a forever love?

MY TAKE

So far Five Star Romance is my least favorite book in the AOB series.  I found the book to be predictable and the main characters annoying.  Now, before I go into detail I do want to say that I didn’t hate the book, I really didn’t.  The book is good for passing time and if you’re a fan of romance and Kimani books you’ll love it. I’m sure there are others who love the book,my own mother being one of them.

Our hero Blaze Alexander  and his family own a hotel chain inherited from the grandfather, he is the “bad boy turned good” and while he loves his job he hates the new attention he and his family are receiving after inheriting the hotel  chain.  Livi is a buyer for the Beverly Hills hotel who has  a secret.  Blaze and a Livi met in Vegas and immediately hit it off, they spend all of their time together and of course they share an extreme attraction.  On the last day Blaze suffers from a head injury that causes him to forget the latter half of his time in Vegas including his time with Livi.  Fast forward two years and Blaze imagines he sees Livi in his family’s hotel,he hasn’t forgotten about her after all these years but he has no way of finding her.  He’s not the only one who hasn’t forgotten, Livi indeed works at the hotel as a buyer but she’s afraid of making herself known because of the secret she’s been keeping.

Throughout the book we get find out what actually happened that last day in Vegas.  Earlier that day Livi and Blaze got married without telling anyone .  After the wedding the went to a concert where Blaze fell and hit his head after performing with his Fraternity brothers. When Livi gets to the hospital  she over hears Blaze telling his everyone he didn’t run off with her and that he didn’t want to be married.  Obviously hurt and embarrassed Livi and her friends leave Vegas the next day.

And this is where I leave you to find out what else happens. The book focuses on the news of the marriage and how Dexter, Livi and his family deal with the news.

WHAT I DIDNT ❤

  • It really bothered me that Livi knew she was married but did nothing for almost two years!! Really? It was very selfish of her.  What if Blaze wanted to get married? What if someone else figured out the secret.
  • Blaze has an annoying habit of jumping to conclusions.
  • Livi often came off as being very desperate.

Book Description

A brand-new Westmoreland novel from New York Times bestselling author Brenda Jackson.

Riley Westmoreland never mixes business with pleasure—until he meets his company’s gorgeous new party planner. But when he gets Alpha Blake into bed, he realizes one night will never be enough. That’s when her past threatens to end their affair. So Riley does what any Westmoreland male would do…he vows to win her heart—for good.

My Take (Little to no spoilers)

If any of the Westmoreland Men could be my dream man it would be Riley.  He is sweet, thoughtful, caring, smart and Outright SEXY! The minute Riley offered to pick Alpha for the meeting because her car broke down I was a goner.  And then he picked her up      put on the Westmoreland charm, what woman can resist?

Alpha is the Florida girl (yay) who leaves home after a broken relationship and of all places moves to Denver.  Now seeing as how I’m a florida girl through and through I just don’t see me ever doing that lol.  The former veterinarian gives up her career to pursue her passion as a party planner.  Riley is the company’s 40th Anniversary chair and they hire Alphas company to plan the affair and from the moment they meet I felt good about the relationship.  It starts as a business relationship but there is so much attraction that Riley can’t stand it and proposes to Alpha that they have a six-week affair because that’s all he needs to get her out his system *eye roll*.

What happens through out the rest of the story is a courtship that would make any woman sigh and secret to unexpected it left me in shock.  I never expected Brenda to go there and I LOVED the twist.  All in All its a great read that any romance fan would love.  And if you havent read any of Brenda Jackson’s Westmoreland series (what are your waiting for) I suggest you give those a try as well.

My Take (Little to no spoilers)

❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ this book!!!  So much so that I finished it the same day it was released.  Well to be fair I could not sleep that night.  I woke up at 2AM and was like ” Really?? Why am I awake?  My mother told me that when you wake up in the middle of the night God is trying to tell you something.  So I prayed read my bible and still not sleepy, so I decided to read Insurgent, #BadIDEA.  After reading the first chapter I was hooked and next thing you know my alarm is going off and its time for work #SAD. Every break I was reading, and finally during lunch i finished it.  Did I mention that I <3<3<3<3 this book.  Now to my “review”

Insurgent is book#2 in the Divergent Trilogy, you can read my review here.  The book picks up right where Divergent left off.  I would describe this book as “the road to the truth” .  We learn a little bit more about Four/Tobias’ life before Dauntless (including his mom).  We learn why the Erudite wanted to take out the Abnegation.  We see a whole lot more of the factionless including old characters. And what is beyond the fence. There is WAR, DEATH,LIES,SECRETS and more questions by the time you get to the end.   But its a great read!  I look forward to next year (AHHH) when book#3 is released.

Notes:

I loved the relationship Tris and Four have, Its realistic. Relationships aren’t all hugs and kisses especially when your high school aged (trust me I know) and I appreciate Veronica for trusting us with that understanding.

Tris has become such a confident kick butt person and i must say I’m proud.  She thinks for herself and trust her instincts, although her selfless thinking sometimes made me wanna kick her.
